Our insider hiking tips

Wonderful trails, alpine pastures and secret spots in Val Senales
As true locals, we know the surrounding area and the mountains around us very well. To help you discover some of our favourite places and alpine meadows during your stay, we’re sharing our personal hiking tips and top spots here:

Hike to Bergl Alm

Our private alpine pasture, located at 2,214 metres above sea level, is one of the most beautiful spots in Val Senales. Here, Schmid and Caro will treat you to a selection of special Tyrolean dishes. Several hiking trails lead to the Bergl Alm. From Hotel Gerstgras, you can reach the alpine hut in about an hour via trail no. 13, which includes a fairly steep climb.

The farm hike

Hike along the lake to Vernagt. Once there, join hiking trail no. 2, which will take you to the Tisenhof. Continue trail no. 9 to the Raffeinhof and up to the Finailhof. After a break, path no. 9 leads you back to the hotel.

Val di Fosse

Val di Fosse is the largest side valley of Val Senales and can be reached via a narrow and steep road. The Val di Fosse Adventure Trail starts at the Vorderkaserhof, where you can park (for a fee). On the path leading to the Eishof (2,071 metres) and then to the Stettiner Hütte mountain hut, you'll encounter numerous picturesque, rustic alpine huts along the way.

Penaud Alm

From the forest parking lot in Certosa (about 10 km from Gerstgras), you can hike through lush green meadows and shady forests along forest trail No. 20, until you reach the Penaud Alm (2,320 m) after approximately 2 hours.

Lafetz Alm

This beautiful panoramic circular hike begins in the village of Unser Frau and winds its way through the forest up to the Lafetz Alm. From there, you’ll continue to “Bichele”, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the valley.
